Watch out world, I’m a mobile superwoman!
TweetI was pretty pleased this year to learn that I had been chosen not only for Mobile Entertainment’s Top 50 Women in Mobile Content, but also Mobile Marketer’s Women to Watch in Mobile for 2010. While I accept these accolades with honor, part of me feels that they were not very hard to earn. My husband would tell me that I don’t give myself enough credit but honestly, I’ve been in mobile for over 12 years and it still is a very male dominated industry.
When I started attending MobileMondays Boston events a couple of years ago I remember looking around the room and tweeting how there was a 1 to 10 ratio of women to men in the room. Not much had changed in the previous decade. I know this is true throughout the tech industry, but I find it especially true in mobile.
Hopefully as this becomes the decade of mobile (or so we all hope), things are going to change. I’d like to see what I can do to help. I’ve tried to stay somewhat involved in my alma mater at Rowan University, by judging their business plan competitions on YouNoodle, but distance and time restraints have prevented me from doing more. But the fact is, I love to mentor. When I lived in NYC, I was a Big Sister. In various management roles, I greatly enjoyed mentoring my staff and providing them with a career path.
So my call to action is this. If you are a woman, or know one, that would like to get involved in the mobile industry, give me a call. I’d love to see how I can help make introductions and provide you with some guidance along your path. We can’t break the glass ceiling unless we work together.
